girl, interrupted

Hey guys! I'm taking suggestions as to what movies I should review next. If I haven't seen it, I'll watch it and review it. I had a TikTok viewer recommend Girl, Interrupted. I hadn't seen the whole thing, just parts. So I watched it. And I was shocked at the star-studded cast! Of course Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie were good in it. But they weren't just good. Winona played a more serious version of her journaling self from Heathers. And the song Que Sera, Sera from Heathers was in this movie, too. Angelina Jolie gives what is probably the best performance I've seen from her in this movie. She's raw and edgy and crazy and mean, but also playful and silly and lovable. Her character is so complex, and she plays it perfectly.

But we've also got Whoopie Goldberg, Jeffrey Tambor (whom you probably know from Arrested Development), Elizabeth Moss (from Mad Men and Handmaiden's Tale), Brittany Murphy! (whom I didn't recognize in the role and then was very sad when I realized who it was), Jared Leto!, Vanessa Redgrave!, Kurtwood Smith (whom you probably know from That 70s Show or Robocop), and Joanna Kerns! (Maggie Seaver from Growing Pains). What a cast!

The film is adapted from a book with the same name. The name comes from a painting called "Girl Interrupted at Her Music" by Vermeer, which looks like this:

The story is VERY funny, sad, and draws you into the turmoil inside the mind of the main character. You love, hate, fear and pity Angelina Jolie's character. The end of the movie actually made me cry.

I won't give you any spoilers, but I highly recommend it. It's rated R for strong language, and drug, sex, and suicide concepts.
