Red Notice is the franchise we've all been waiting for
Hey guys! I started this movie review blog awhile back and never got very consistent at it. i.e. I only posted one movie and stopped.
But I loved Red Notice so much that it inspired me to pick it up again, and I'm gonna make this a regular thing. I have a few friends who ask for my reviews on new movies before they go see them, and this is a handy place for me to say a little more about them than just "it's good!" or "that was awful."
Red Notice is delightful. It's funny, sassy, adventure from beginning to end. I'm going to give this review without spoilers, except for one tiny little one: the tone of the movie is encapsulated in Ryan Reynolds whistling the theme from Indiana Jones as he and The Rock descend into... well, into the hiding place for one of the artifacts they're looking for. I'm gonna keep this vague.
I love The Rock (I know, we're supposed to call him Dewayne Johnson now, but I am not one to play by the rules). I love Ryan Reynolds. And I love Gal Gadot! They're three of my favorite people in Hollywood. And man do they work well together on screen. Ryan is his usual hilarious self, where he seems to be channeling his inner Deadpool all the time, either dialed up or down depending on the role. Gal is mysterious and edgy and beautiful. She is genuinely funny in this, and has a presence that adds chemistry and depth to the plot. And The Rock is the solid action actor that I think gets consistently underrated. I mean, yes he gets lots of work. But I don't think he's taken as seriously as he deserves. I've never seen him in a scene that fell flat - he always carries it with an energy of boyish charm and wholesomeness that is really refreshing in today's jaded world.
I won't spoil the movie by telling you anything about the plot, except to say that very little is what it appears to be. You'll be enthralled by the multiple revelations. It's a fun, quirky, funny, twisty story that pretty much the whole family can enjoy because it's rated PG13, there is a little language, no nudity, and the violence is very bloodless.
Highly recommend.
